Incorrect On Purpose

An fun, incorrect-quotes Tumblr Robyn runs with her sister. They borrow quotes from one source (TV show, movie, book, song, etc) and use characters from another source (TV show, movie, book, song, etc) to quote it, instead of the originals.

For example, one of their more popular entries uses a quote from the movie Hotel Transylvania, as if it was said by two characters from the manga/anime Hellsing:

Pip: Stake to the heart?

Alucard: Yeah, well, who wouldn't that kill?

National Novel Writing Month

National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo, is an annual writing contest hosted the world over every November. The goal is to write whatever story you want, 50k words or more between November 1st and 30th.

It teaches a writer how to plan, write from the heart, and push forward, all within the time limit (just as a deadlined author would need to).

Participants enter for free by making their own author page to keep track of progress (that only they and approved writing buddies see). There are forums and both online and physical write-ins, where contestants can enjoy advise, inspiration, and friendship with fellow contestants, or they can keep to themselves.

Every April is the script-writing version. And, every July and August are the Camp NaNoWriMo versions, where a participant chooses their own word-goal.

There is also the Young Writer's Program (YMP), which gets full classrooms, K-12, involved and beyond. The word-goal is the total of the classroom's wordcount instead.

Prizes for passing the 50k+ finish line include free proof copies of finished novels (which are usually encouraged to be worked on between December and June), trails and/or full memberships to author sites, online certificates, badges, and a confidence that cannot be described.

How cool is that?!

Many a participant has gone on to be a famous author. Robyn herself has participated since 2008, writing/winning eight out of eleven times (a participant ten times for NaNoWriMo and once for Camp NaNoWriMo). It helped her begin her career and she hasn't looked back since.
